Fall is here and the smell of fresh textbooks is in the air, as students and faculty return to campus for the first time in a year and a half. For some students, this will be their first year away from home...and a long awaited one!
Places4Students.com has put together a list of things to do that will help you enjoy your new living space.
-
Do a quick clean up: This should have been done by the landlord prior to move-in, but it’s always nice to freshen-up everything and clean when moving in. Wipe down counters and appliances; vacuum; disinfect the shower, sinks, and toilet.
-
Set-up utilities: If not included in your rent and per your lease, get the utilities set-up in your name and ready to go...Internet being of the most important!
-
Plan transportation to campus: Unless you can walk, plan the main commute to campus plus an alternative route(s), should weather or construction ever be an issue and you need a detour.
-
Add chores to your calendar: Set-up a weekly cleaning and grocery shopping schedule to help stay on top of the chores at home.
-
Buy essentials: Stock up on bathroom supplies, toiletries, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc. so you don’t run out on a day studying for a test is the priority.
-
Meal prep: Plan meals at the beginning of every week and grocery shop around that list. This will help to save both money and time. Prepare some foods ahead of time such as washing and cutting up fruit and vegetables.
-
Get cozy: Organize your space to create a comfortable environment that you can relax and study in. This has been proven to be less distractive for students and helps them to focus on work.
-
Decorate: Add your personalized touches such as pictures, pillows, rugs, decorations, etc. and enjoy your home away from home!
