With only a month into the 2020/2021 school year, we are recognizing how student life and COVID-19 need to cohabitate. With some campuses reporting new cases of COVID-19 in their communities, it is important to remain calm, yet continue to be proactive about staying safe.

Below are some suggestions for students to keep physically and mentally healthy while studying.

Whether learning full-time, part-time, online or in-class at campus, it is important to do your part to keep you and your school’s community safe.

  • Be aware of your current community by-laws, as well as your campus protocol for COVID-19 safety measures and screening.
  • Continue to maintain proper hand hygiene and social distancing from others in public.
  • If you are able, wear a mask when in public.
  • Keep your social circle limited to the required numbers and avoid large groups. Enjoy outdoor events like a picnic or drive-in movie, rather than indoor get-togethers.
  • When going out to eat, enjoy restaurants with outdoor patios (weather permitting) and do not share food or drinks with others.
  • Proactively monitor any symptoms you may have and follow campus protocol for self-isolation, if applicable.
  • Should you find yourself coming down with COVID-19 symptoms and need to self-isolate, ask someone to deliver groceries and necessities so you don’t need to leave your house.

Mental Health is extremely important too and should be monitored daily.

  • Try to remain calm during these uncertain times.
  • Spend time outside and enjoy the sun’s natural Vitamin D!
  • Stay organized and on top of your schoolwork.
  • Stay connected with friends and family regularly. Take advantage of all the various virtual formats to accomplish this, especially from afar.

Remember, everyone is handling the changes COVID-19 has brought to our lifestyles differently. Be kind to yourself and others. We will all get through this pandemic together!
